Activity We will be attending the ANZAC Dawn Service at Manly Dam on Saturday 25 April 2026 at 5.15am. The night before, we'll camp at the dam, cook supper on a fire and do a short walk.
Details We will meet at the car parking at the corner of King St and Arana St parking near the entrance to Manly Dam at 5pm on Friday, 24 April and hike to our campsite (area 4). This will be a combined F/M Cubs/Scouts/Venturers camp, along with other Scout groups (e.g. Balgowlah). Tents will be provided by the Group, two youth per 3 person tent or 1 youth per 2 person tent, though it is appreciated if you can bring your own tent. Parents staying overnight can park at area 4. Cubs who are 8 or 9 years old need a parent attending overnight. Parents attending overnight need to be a registered Parent Helper (email or call Jan for details).
Food Cubs/Scouts/Venturers will need to have had some kind of substantial meal before hand, or bring with them. We will provide a late supper of sausages on bread as well as breakfast (oats or muesli with milk, email Jan with dietary requirements and allergies).
Morning Saturday morning we will get up at 4.45am, leave area 4 at 5am and arrive at the war memorial at 5.15am to attend the ANZAC dawn service with participation from scouts (e.g. Seaforth). After the service, we will return to camp, make breakfast, pack up and hike back out to the drop off point at the corner of King St and Arana St.
Cubs/Scouts/Venturers will earn the Manly Dam blanket badge and have a memorable experience. Group covers all costs.
Parents! Note this is a unique opportunity to camp with your cub/scout, attend a dawn service and still be back home at 9am for your morning coffee. Parents attending overnight should register twice (once for themselves, once for their child) and need to be a registered Parent Helper. Parents attending only the evening (help with supper?) or morning (attend service?) do not need to register, but please let Jan know by email.
If you cannot attend overnight, the group also participates in the ANZAC parade on the Corso, later on Saturday morning. Details in separate event registration.
